A series of tunnels below ground level that hold the not so known waterworks of the Trevi fountain. One of Ancient Romes first Aqueducts still can be seen here as it is still in use to this day.
Tour description
Discover a lesser-known side of Rome on this private underground tour, exploring what lies beneath two of the city’s most famous landmarks: Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain. Accompanied by an Official Private Guide and with all entrance tickets included, you experience ancient Rome from a unique and revealing perspective.
The tour begins in Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s most celebrated Baroque squares. Beneath its elegant surface lies the Stadium of Domitian, built in the 1st century AD and once used for athletic competitions. Descending below street level, you walk through original arches, corridors, and remains of the ancient structure, gaining insight into how this Roman stadium shaped the form of the square above.
From Piazza Navona, the walk continues toward the Trevi Fountain, where you pause to admire its monumental design and hear the story behind one of Rome’s most iconic symbols. Just steps away, you descend into the Vicus Caprarius, also known as the City of Water. This underground archaeological site reveals a complex network of ancient Roman buildings, passageways, and a section of an aqueduct that is still functioning today, supplying water to the fountain above.
Throughout the tour, your guide connects the visible city with its hidden foundations, explaining how layers of history overlap and survive beneath modern Rome. Far from the crowds and noise, this experience offers a quiet, immersive journey into the city’s underground past.
Ideal for curious travelers and history enthusiasts, this private tour reveals the hidden Rome that continues to live just below the surface of its most famous squares.
