One of the new wonders of the modern world is also the largest ever Amphitheatre constructed during Ancient times was built with Volcanic rock mixed with brick and held an estimated 50-80 thousand people. It was a real hub of entertainment in central Rome, with regular shows, animal hunts and gladiatorial battles. Races were not held within the Colosseum due to the nearby Circo Massimo race track.
-
The Pantheon, a former Roman temple, is located within central Rome, within walking distance to other well known sites as Navona Square and the Trevi Fountain. Now a functional church, it is the burial place for many Resniense masters such as Raphael as well as 2 kings of Italy. The monument is very unique with a circular, Oculus roof allowing sunlight and even rain into the beautiful church. The original building was constructed almost 2000 years ago and Michelangelo was noted as saying that the design is of Angels and cannot be of human concept.
-
The area of the famous flower market derives its name from being once a field of flowers, paved in 1456 under Pope Callistus III. Public executions took place in this square, which is nowadays commemorated by the impressive statue of Giordano Bruno, the Italian philosopher burnt at the stake in 1600 for heresy. The place is today very lively both during the day and by night.
-
One of the biggest and most breathtaking monuments you'll come across while walking in the Jewish Ghetto of Rome is the majestic ruins of Octavia’s Porticus. Constructed two thousand years ago under the order of Augustus, in honor of his sister Octavia, was a monumental marble area surrounded by columns and embellished by two temples dedicated to Juno and Jupiter. The frescos that are still visible today were realized centuries later, showing us how this area was continuously used over the centuries.
-
Piazza Navona is littered with Baroque masterpieces, including those of the world famous "Bernini" The area was originally used as an Athletics stadium in the year of 80 AD under Emperor Titus, which later turned into the city's market in the 1500's. The square has kept its original shape and the surrounding buildings were erected upon the ancient crowd stand foundations. f

A picture with the Spanish Steps in the background is a must do in Rome! This modern monument was arranged three centuries ago in order to find an architectural connection between the Fountain of the Barcaccia on the street level, by Pietro Bernini, and the Renaissance church standing on the top of the slope. The Spanish Steps are unique for their unusual plan and shape designed by Alessandro Specchi and Francesco De Sanctis. Traditional icon of the Italian Dolce Vita, the Spanish Steps cannot be missed during a visit to the Eternal city.
-
Piazza del Popolo is one the most famous squares of Rome and it is clear to see why. The square is surrounded by 3 of the most beautiful churches of Rome, a large Egyptian obelisk surrounded by fountains and accessway to one of the picturesque viewpoints in Rome. You will also notice the imposing door of Rome, decorated by none other than Bernini.
