This is the III district in Rome's historic center and it takes its name from the honorary column of Marcus Aurelius, erected for the triumph of the Emperor over Germanic populations, at the end of the II century AD. The main churches you can visit are San Lorenzo in Lucina and Sant'Andrea delle Fratte. This is where Bernini and Borromini lived the most part of their time in Rome. The district houses also the seat of the Italian Government and Parliament.
