Situated in the Southern Dolomitic Alps and roughly 2 hours north of Venice is this mountain top town. After being within the Venetian republic in 1420, the town was mostly ruled by Austria, that only stopped ruling as recently as 1918. Cortina was scheduled to hold the 1944 winter olympics until the second world war began. It eventually hosted the worldwide event in the mid 50's and is set to do so again in 2026.
-
One of the most famous views of the Dolomite mountain region of Northern Italy. The areas used to be part of the national border between Italy and Austria until 1919 when Italy took more of the mountainous land. All 3 peaks are very close in height, however, the highest stands 9,839 ft tall.
-
Some of the most celebrated Dolomites are here: the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, Mount Sorapiss and Cristallo. Known as Lake Santa Caterina, this artificial lake is located at the center of a stunning mountain landscape, used as a mining district in ancient times. The surrounding large forest was once one used by Venice for supplying its naval fleet with oars and it’s today a nature reserve that will allow for solitary treks among a magic peaceful retreat.
