Porta Pia is located within the Ancient 271-275 AD Aurelian walls. A famous gate of Rome that replaced the original gate which was in place when the walls surrounding it were erected. Porta Pia was designed by no other than the great Michelangelo in 1561.

The Basilica is built within the ruins of the Roman Baths of Diocletian. The Ancient Roman Spa dates back to 306 AD and were the largest of imperial baths. The Basilica was constructed in the 16th century, following an original design by no other than Michelangelo but is largely a Baroque style Basilica due to other architects taking the lead in the design and style over the centuries.

Located not so far from the Colosseum, the small Basilica is home to the infamous statue of Moses. Pope Julius the second, who commissioned the project to be Hand crafted in 1545 for his personal tomb, ironically died while Michelangelo was still in the carving process. The original building from 432 was designed to house the relic that so famously bounded Saint Peter while he was imprisoned in Jerusalem.

One of the most famous squares of Rome is Piazza del Campidoglio, situated in front of the Palazzo Senatorio, the city hall of Rome! The square, originally designed by Michelangelo, is embellished with the copy of the only Roman bronze equestrian statue which survived from the ancient Roman time. Walking here means to get in touch with the old origins of the Eternal City!

A church with a simple facade, but this basilica will surprise you with the beauties that are inside! You'll discover a chapel with gorgeous frescos from the Renaissance Age, important Catholic relics related to a saint and even tombs of the Medici Popes. This simple looking church from the outside is also home of a marvellous masterpiece, a marble Jesus sculpted by Michelangelo himself!

Piazza Farnese has been embellished with the great Farnese palace since Renaissance times. Michelangelo was one of the architects who joined the project. If you come here you can understand how long is the history of Rome: a typical square of the city centre, next to Campo de Fiori where the local and traditional market could be found, that is embellished with a Renaissance palace and two enormous Roman fountains, originally located in the Caracalla’s Baths. Amazing.

Michelangelo was considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime, and ever since then he has been held to be one of the greatest artists of all time. A number of his works in painting, sculpture and architecture rank among the most famous in existence. Although the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (Vatican) are probably the best known of his works today, the artist thought of himself primarily as a sculptor. For posterity Michelangelo has always remained one of the small group of the most exalted artists, who have been felt to express, like Shakespeare or Beethoven, the tragic experience of humanity with the greatest depth and universal scope.
Start your tour at Porta Pia: the door that was one of Michelangelo's last works. Reach your second destination, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, where Michelangelo’s conversion of an ancient bathhouse into a church is regarded a real masterpiece.
Walk down cobblestone streets and reach San Pietro in Vincoli, known as St. Peter in Chains, the church that houses the shrine of Giulio II and Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, Moses. Strolling through Rome’s historic center we will reach Piazza del Campidoglio, a piazza with a unique perspective designed by 'The Master and Father of All the Arts.' Head to Basilica di Santa Maria Sopra Minerva where you will see Michelangelo's Cristo della Minerva, also known as the Risen Christ, up close and in detail.
