One of the new wonders of the modern world is also the largest ever Amphitheatre constructed during Ancient times was built with Volcanic rock mixed with brick and held an estimated 50-80 thousand people. It was a real hub of entertainment in central Rome, with regular shows, animal hunts and gladiatorial battles. Races were not held within the Colosseum due to the nearby Circo Massimo race track.

Access to the Arena floor is closed off to public by a small gate and is accessible with an internal Colosseum guide. The Arena floor offers views of the underground foundations below and the privilege to walk where Gladiators and wild beasts once fought to the death.

- Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required for safety. Access to the Colosseum may be denied without proper footwear.
- Please ensure you bring valid photo ID or passports. Colosseum staff will perform checks, and access may be denied if the names on the tickets do not match the identification provided.
- For security reasons all visitors are screened at the entrance and bags are checked with metal detectors and opened and visually inspected by the Urbe Security Institute, responsible for the entrance inspection.
- It is not possible to bring large bags or backpacks, as well as bulky bags and trolleys to the sites. (only small or medium flat bags). Tripods are not allowed.
