Sites you’ll visit

  • Pompeii
  • Herculaneum
  • Located just 16 miles southeast of Naples, Pompeii is the most-visited archaeological site in the world due to its many and well-preserved ruins, left behind by a city buried in Vesuvius’s wake in the year 79 A.D. The ancient site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997 and is an excellent repository of details on daily life during Antiquity. Pompeii’s surviving treasures that survived long enough to tell the city’s story are its main forum and public structures, such as the Capitolium, the Basilica, the public baths, the triangular forum, its two theatres and the Stabian Baths.
  • Often overlooked by Pompeii, the smaller town of Herculaneum was also an Ancient Roman town that was covered in ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in roughly 79 AD - Located slightly closer to the Volcano, Herculaneum's ash covered town carbonized and preserved materials much better than Pompeii. The carbonization preserved items like wooden roofs, doors and beds and many lavish possessions within the wealthier town of the two. There are roughly 400 people mummified by ash still remaining in these ruins.

Tour description

Embark on an immersive Full Day Private Discovery tour from Naples to the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This exclusive experience offers you a unique opportunity to explore two of Italy's most significant archaeological sites, accompanied by a knowledgeable private guide.

Your journey begins with a comfortable pickup from your location in Naples, in a private car dedicated to you for the entire day. As you travel towards Pompeii, your guide will share insights into the rich history and culture that define this region.

First, explore the ruins of Pompeii, a city frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. With skip-the-line access, you'll bypass the crowds and step directly into the ancient streets. Witness the well-preserved buildings, frescoes, and mosaics that offer a glimpse into the daily life of its former inhabitants.

Next, the tour proceeds to Herculaneum, offering a contrasting experience to Pompeii. Although smaller, Herculaneum provides a more intimate look at Roman life, with its exquisite artefacts and structures that were covered in a deep layer of mud, preserving them even more effectively than Pompeii.

Throughout the tour, your private guide will bring history to life, narrating stories of the past and explaining the significance of the ruins and artefacts you'll encounter. This personalized experience ensures that you have ample time to explore, ask questions, and fully appreciate the wonders of these ancient cities.

Conclude your day of discovery with a relaxing drive back to Naples, reflecting on the incredible insights and memories you've gathered. This Full Day Private Discovery tour promises an unforgettable journey through time, history, and preserved beauty, tailor-made for those who seek a deeper understanding of Italy's ancient past.
