My name is Denis and I'm from Cesena, a small town in northern Italy. I moved to Rome following my dreams, and I must admit that Rome is a true dream. So much art, fashion and history all in one place made me fall in love with the city and I decided to stay here. As a man, I love to travel, and honestly I'm a travel addict and a surfer as well- two addictions that go well together. I started traveling around the world in search of the perfect wave, and I loved getting to know the different cultures and traditions of the places I visited. In addition to waves and travel, I continue to be very passionate about ancient Roman history, meeting people from around the world, and it is so nice to be able to share my knowledge with them.
My favorite Italian Gestures
Not gonna happen. / Non c'è trippa per gatti.
This is a great gesture to use in a variety of situations, used to express the fact that there is no hope in getting what you want. It can mean anything from, 'there isn't any left' to 'it's never going to happen,' and all shades in between. The literal translation is, 'There is no tripe for cats,' meaning that if humans (or at least Romans, who love their tripe) had any tripe, they certainly wouldn't be sharing it with cats!
To make this gesture, make your hands into loosely shaped pistols, with thumbs up, and index fingers pointing more or less in front of you. Then, rotating your thumbs out, and back in and out again several times, you can say, 'Non c'è trippa per gatti.' This can be used any time you want to communicate that you couldn't find something, or someone had or has no chance of success.
