Tour description

The Venetian Carnival Mask is known all over the world, now you and your family have the chance to create your own Traditional Mask! With the help of an expert Artisan, learn different coloring techniques and uncover the dying art of handmade traditional masks with an explanation of the history of this longstanding tradition. Mask-wearing in Venice dates back to the 12th century and was popular among men and women of all statuses as it was a way to change identity. At one point it got so out of control that people were ordered to only wear masks during carnival season. Venetian masks are still as popular today and many styles are made synonymously with luxury design, having been chosen for numerous film and theatre productions including Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick, Fifty Shades of Grey, the Vienna Opera, and fashion photography for Vogue Japan, just to mention a few. Mask workshops have revitalized the old tradition of Venetian carnival masks by offering a steady stream of new designs while remaining true to the original, authentic techniques. This tour is very kid friendly and can even be done without parental supervision for kids 10 years and above: of course the whole family is welcome to participate!
