Sardinia: Castelsardo Tour with Wine Tasting in a Local Vineyard

A full-day private journey through northern Sardinia — medieval Castelsardo, ancient villages, panoramic landscapes and a farm lunch with local wine in the heart of Anglona.

What makes this tour Special

Castelsardo, one of Italy's most extraordinary medieval villages, as your opening act. Perched above the sea with a Genoese castle at its summit, artisan workshops in its alleys and centuries of layered history in its stones, Castelsardo alone would justify the day. With a private guide, it becomes genuinely unforgettable.

A part of Sardinia that tourism hasn't reached. The Anglona territory is among the least-visited areas of the island — which means the villages are real, the landscapes are unspoiled and the lunch at the family farm is the kind of experience that simply doesn't exist in tourist circuits. This is northern Sardinia without the filter.

The full picture of a place: its history, its people and its food. In a single day, this tour moves from medieval architecture to rural traditions to panoramic wilderness to a table set with homemade wine and food. Each part connects to the next, building a portrait of northern Sardinia that is genuinely complete.

Sites you’ll visit

  • Castelsardo
  • Anglona Villages
  • Farm Lunch with Local Wine
  • Castelsardo, one of the most breathtaking medieval villages in all of Italy. Perched on a promontory above the Tyrrhenian Sea, the town reveals itself gradually as your private guide leads you through narrow stone alleys, past artisan workshops where the ancient craft of wicker weaving still lives, and up toward the hilltop castle with its sweeping views of the coastline. History is layered into every wall here — Genoese, Aragonese, Sardinian — and your guide brings each chapter to life with stories that no guidebook contains.
  • Life here still moves at a pace that feels deliberate and unhurried. Your guide introduces you to the rhythms of these communities, their traditions and their stories, while the landscape opens up at a series of panoramic viewpoints overlooking serene lakes, rugged mountains and the silhouettes of ancient medieval castles standing watch in the distance. This is the real Sardinia — the one that doesn't appear on travel posters.
  • The table is set, the wine is poured, and lunch is served — traditional Sardinian dishes made entirely from ingredients grown and produced on the estate. It's the kind of meal that can only happen here: honest, generous and deeply rooted in the land. The wine that accompanies it is local, the bread is homemade, and the conversation that follows is unhurried. There is no better way to spend a Sardinian afternoon.

Tour description

Sardinia's north is famous for its coastline. The granite boulders, the emerald water, the villas hidden behind stone walls along the Costa Smeralda. What's far less known — and far more revealing — is what lies just a few kilometres inland. The Anglona region is a different world entirely: medieval, rural, authentic, and almost entirely untouched by mass tourism. This private full-day tour spends an entire day inside it.

Castelsardo is the starting point — a hilltop village that has been described as one of the most beautiful in Italy, and earns the description entirely on its own terms. Its narrow lanes climb steeply toward a Genoese castle at the summit, passing workshops where artisans still practice the traditional art of wicker weaving that has defined this community for generations. Your private guide turns the walk into a story: of the families who built these walls, the powers that fought over this promontory, and the sea that has always defined the horizon.

From there, the day dips into the interior. Through traditional Anglona villages where daily life unfolds at an unhurried rhythm — old men at cafe tables, laundry on balconies, murals covering entire building facades. Roadside viewpoints open suddenly onto lakes, forested ridgelines, and the ruins of medieval castles that punctuate the landscape like full stops in a long sentence.

Lunch is served at a local farm, where the food on the table comes directly from the land around it. Homemade Sardinian dishes, local wines, and the particular warmth of a family that has been welcoming guests to this table for years. It's the kind of meal that reframes everything that came before it and after.

Private transfers are included for guests staying in the North of Sardinia (Costa Smeralda, Olbia, Palau, Arzachena, Santa Teresa, Alghero).
