We are indeed tour guides but first we are travelers. We understand there might be last minute unforeseen circumstances that might cause a change of plans. When we sat down to write our cancellation policy we decided to think to what Cancellation Policy we would like to have for ourselves for our trips.

Accompanied by an expert guide we will explore Michelangelo's masterpieces dispersed throughout Rome, and learn the history and interesting anecdotes about his life.

Michelangelo was considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime, and ever since then he has been held to be one of the greatest artists of all time. A number of his works in painting, sculpture and architecture rank among the most famous in existence. Although the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (Vatican) are probably the best known of his works today, the artist thought of himself primarily as a sculptor. For posterity Michelangelo has always remained one of the small group of the most exalted artists, who have been felt to express, like Shakespeare or Beethoven, the tragic experience of humanity with the greatest depth and universal scope.

Start your tour at Porta Pia: the door that was one of Michelangelo's last works. Reach your second destination, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, where Michelangelo’s conversion of an ancient bathhouse into a church is regarded a real masterpiece.

Walk down cobblestone streets and reach San Pietro in Vincoli, known as St. Peter in Chains, the church that houses the shrine of Giulio II and Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, Moses. Strolling through Rome’s historic center we will reach Piazza del Campidoglio, a piazza with a unique perspective designed by 'The Master and Father of All the Arts.' Head to Basilica di Santa Maria Sopra la Minerva where you will see Michelangelo's Cristo della Minerva, also known as the Risen Christ, up close and in detail.

End your tour in the footsteps of Michelangelo with a visit to Piazza Farnese, a piazza dominated by the impressive Farnese Palace designed in part by our artist.

Hi! I am amazed by the Pieta and I would love to include it in ‘In the footsteps of Michelangelo’. Is that possible or they are necessarily two different tours?

hi eyes of rome! i know that the capitoline museums are very interesting. What if I’d like to take the Michelangelo tour and change the end of the tour at the Capitoline square and then add an extra hour for a guided visit of the museums?

Hi Mark, thank you for your question. The Pietas - La Pietà - is located in St. Peter’s Basilica, and the entrance is free of charge. However, there is a long line - especially in the high season - and we cannot guarantee how long you will be queuing to enter the Basilica. Therefore we suggest to book a Vatican tour that finishes at St. Peter’s with the Pietà included in the visit. Otherwise, you can do ‘In the footsteps of Michelangelo’ and ask your guide to finish at St. Peter’s. He or she will explain the Pieta from the outside and at your very own time you can go and see it after the tour ends.

For any other enquiries please send us an email at info@eyesofrome.com and we can help you design the best tour for you.

    Have a nice day!

  • Hi Edward, I am one of the guides of Eyes of Rome, thanks for reaching out to us! Yes of course you can arrange with us the itinerary according to your very own interests. I agree, the Capitoline museums are very interesting and if you'd like to have it guided then yes an extra hour should be fine. Otherwise you may want to see our 'Dive into Roman History' tour, and maybe considering it as well. Please let us know if you have any other questions :)

Hi Mark, here is my experience. I took ‘In the footsteps of Michelangelo’ tour and I have to say that it’s a spectacular tour. I have been the day before on a Vatican tour as well and saw the Giudizio universale and the Pieta in St. Peter’s. I had the full experience of the work and the life of the master Michelangelo. With a guided tour what you see will make just so much sense! Thanks to the Eyes of Rome team for the hard work for my Roman journey.
